News Release
MATTOON — A Community Crossroads artisan market is planned for both daytime and
evening hours on Aug. 14 in front of the Mattoon Public Library.
This is the first artisan market organized by the library. It runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and
4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on 16th Street in front of the library. The street will be closed from
Charleston Avenue up to the alley.
The market features handmaid jewelry, art and related items from local artists. “They are all
handmaid items from local artists,” said Stacy Fetters, who organized the event along with
Laura Severson for the library. “The purpose is to showcase talents of local people and
attract people to the downtown area.”
The event will include two food trucks and one drink truck, with selections including
barbecue and fair food type items.
The library will have a popup book sale that includes used books and copies of The Big Dig,
the story of the development of the Mattoon subway written by library history center
curator Chris Suerdieck. The Mattoon Arts Council also will have a table.
Some vendors will be the same during the day and evening, while others are participating in
only one time slot.
