Material Donations
The Mattoon Public Library welcomes donations of used books and media items in good condition.
Items Accepted:
- Books
- Audiobooks on CD
- Music CDs
- DVDs
- Some magazines (considered on a limited basis)
Wish Lists
The library maintains wish lists of items that directly support library programs, services, and collections. Donating items from a wish list helps meet immediate and specific needs.

How to Donate Materials
Material donations may be dropped off at the library’s main desk. If you plan to donate more than one or two bags, please contact the library in advance.

Items Not Accepted
The library cannot accept:
- Encyclopedia volumes
- Science or medical books printed before 2010
- Materials that are damaged, excessively dirty, exposed to the elements, or emitting odors
What Happens to Donated Materials?
Items not added to the library’s collection may be:
- Shared with other libraries
- Included in the library’s book sale
- Made available for public use
